High Plains Food Bank / News Channel 10:Together We Can Day Kicks Off

DECEMBER 7-11, 2020
Goal: 1 MILLION MEALS!

Today, we kick off the annual Together We Can Holiday Food and Fund Drive. Although this year looks much different, the tradition continues. And, the need has never been greater. To keep our team and the community safe, we strongly encourage everyone to donate online or by adding a donation to your United, Market Street or Amigos grocery purchase. However, we will have a lean crew available at Market Street to accept donations of food and funds via a low/no contact drive through all week with masks, social distancing, and crowd control being enforced on the site.

We need your help to raise the resources we need to provide 1 million meals to neighbors facing food insecurity. Here’s a snapshot of day 1.

Today’s Ambassadors of Giving: NuStar Energy “Kick Off” Sponsor, Happy State Bank, Xcel Energy
Today’s Warehouse Wish List Item– Peanut Butter, presented by Street Volkswagen

FAST FACTS:
• Mission: To Alleviate Hunger in the Texas Panhandle
• HPFB can provide the equivalent of 5 meals with every $1 donation, and $0.95 of every dollar donated goes directly to feeding people in need
• In our 29-county, 30,000-square-mile service area, hunger exists in every county and every zip code
• Food insecurity currently affects 1 in 6 neighbors including 1 in 4 children
• In 2019, HPFB distributed over 9 million pounds of food, or about 7.5 million meals to 9,041 households. This June, we distributed a record-breaking 1.1 million pounds of food to more than 12,000 households in just one month. We’re still serving more than 11,000 households each month, on average.

WAYS TO HELP:
• Give online at www.hpfb/donate – Online giving is sponsored by FirstBank Southwest.
• Donate online or at the register when you shop at any area United, Market Street, or Amigos. The United Family will match your donations, up to $10,000 through Dec. 13!
• Drop off food or fund donations this week at Market Street via the low/no contact drive-through. Volunteers, wearing masks and gloves, will accept your donation, so you never have to leave your vehicle!
• Host an individual or team fundraiser, using our new online tool at https://www.hpfb.org/food-fund-drive
