Amarillo, TX – Don Harrington Discovery Center (DHDC) will premiere its new adult AfterDark on October 19th. Last October the DHDC retired their Mad Scientist Ball that hosted thousands of science geek, lab coat clad party goers over its 10 years of life. The Mad Scientist Ball had a unique approach to a fundraiser as a science-themed party for adults aged 21 or over but the event had run its course and officially went into retirement. This new event will be just as exciting- but it will be different. It’s kind of a big deal, which is why it has been named ‘The Big Deal’
The Big Deal (TBD) will be a night of electrifying fun-raising for adults 21 and over. Guests can expect an over-the-top science themed party that will feature an electrifying performance by ArcAttack! ArcAttack is a performance art group that specializes in Tesla coil music, high voltage stunts and educational outreach and has been dubbed the world’s most dangerous rock band. Combining their love of rock music and their love of science, it’s a show you won’t want to miss! Check them out on YouTube and get ready to be “shocked”! TBD will also include:
• Tunes by local band The Salano Project.
• Heavy hors d’oeuvres by Joe’s Catering including Cheeseburger sliders, Truffle Fries, Fried Pickles, Italian Meatballs and more!
• Treats by Purple Flamingo Pops.
• An open bar with a variety of specialty cocktails, beer and wine.
• A chance to try out Amarillo’s newest Vodka from Bomb City Distillery.
• Make your own Lava Lamps.
• Henna Tattoos.
• A Red Carpet selfie station
• Shocking science demos and atomic activities to tantalize your mind!
• Try your luck with the shocking spheres, human circuit, and Bowling Ball Pendulum.
• Release your inner child and explore the fall traveling exhibit, All Charged Up.
Sponsors of the event that have given $2500 or more will enjoy several perks including a VIP Mixer before the doors open for ticketed guests, a VIP bar, and more. Sponsorship levels are available by contacting Regina Ralston at rralston@dhdc.org or 806.355.9547 ext. 104.
The Discovery Center has individual tickets for sale at $90 each and are available for purchase at dhdc.org. All TBD activities are included in the ticket price.
The Big Deal will become the Discovery Center’s biggest party of the year as well as the premier fundraiser. Proceeds from TBD provide unrestricted funding which helps the Discovery Center, the Region’s only science and technology museum and a 501-(C)(3) non-profit organization, deliver award-winning educational programs, events, and exhibits to thousands of schoolchildren, families and tourists each year. The mission of the DHDC is to inspire lifelong learning and bring communities closer together while offering New Discoveries Every Visit.
Mad Scientist Ball is generously sponsored by (as of 10/2): Education Credit Union, Bell, Happy State Bank, Axigent Technologies, Street Auto Group, Cooke Power, Sprouse, Shrader & Smith, Exceptional Emergency Center, Bill and Bev Harris, Kiki & David Brabham, Abbey & Trey Wilkinson, Dr. Brian Weis & Dr. Joanna Wilson, Mary Emeny, Budweiser Distributing Company, ABC 7 News, Townsquare Media, KAMR Local 4 News, and Fox 14 News.
