D-BAT, an internationally franchised baseball academy, stands for Developing Beliefs Attitudes and Traditions. D-BAT Amarillo is proud to bring this offering to our region as the first and only premier training facility for baseball and softball. D-BAT Amarillo has as a core belief that every player plays a different game and should be taught to maximize his or her talents to suit his or her game.
D-BAT was founded on November 27, 1998. D-BAT has been servicing the North Texas community since 1998 and has grown to its current location on Wright Brothers Drive in Addison, TX. The first baseball team in 1998 featured the son of one of the founders Craig Penfold. An avid baseball fan Craig wanted his son to learn the correct fundamentals of the game and thought Cade Griffis would be the right person to be the coach. It wasn’t until 2004 that D-BAT made its first trip to the Mickey Mantle World Series; the first 15 year old team in tournament history. That team would later win two Connie Mack South Plains Regional Championships in 2006 and 2007 and participate in the Connie Mack World Series. Since the first graduating D-BAT class in 2001 the majority of players have received Division I college baseball scholarships.
About D-BAT Elite Baseball Club: The D-BAT Elite Baseball Club represents a merger of clubs and teams run by friends Cade Griffis and Shayne Currin. The result has been the creation of over 50 teams ranging in age from 7 to 18 year-olds. The excitement created in the baseball community in the Southwest has been phenomenal. Cade Griffis and his D-BAT academies represent the exciting energy of carefully selected high school-aged elite players, while Shayne Currin’s background is building baseball clubs starting at the youth level. Between these two, there have been multiple first-round draft choices and several major league baseball players. MLB alumni include Clayton Kershaw, Jordan Walden, Bryan Holiday, Taylor Teagarden, Robert Ray, Zach Segovia, Adam Moore, Dylan Bundy, as well as over 250 professional players from the inception of D-BAT. The names of other alumni permeate minor league and college rosters. The combination of Griffis and Currin enhances an already remarkable national image for D-BAT as the teams compete on the national level in all of the events sponsored by each of the national sanctioning bodies. The genesis for this success has been the commitment of D-BAT to providing quality youth baseball opportunities in a positive, competitive setting. In addition to a strong spring program for 14 and under players and a highly visible summer program for 15-18U players, D-BAT also manages the highest-profile fall program in the Southwest for high school players with college and professional aspirations, the Dallas Metro Scout League.
