I’m Coach Irvin Johnson (Head boys soccer coach at Palo Duro High School). I’ve reaching out to you with hopes that you may possibly be interested in sponsoring/donating to by my boys’ soccer team here at Palo Duro High School.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, my team and I are unable to run our annual fundraiser which consist of selling “PDHS soccer clothing.”
Our 2020-2021 soccer season will soon be underway and we need your help. The team members of the Palo Duro Soccer Program would like to extend an opportunity for businesses and individuals in the community to help our team.

Any of your tax-deductible donations will go a long way in helping us to defray the cost of expenses such as updated uniforms and much needed equipment for our 40+ players. As you may know, it takes a great deal of time and money to have suitable safe equipment to keep our student/athletes safe.

Donations for the 2020-2021 Palo Duro Men’s Soccer Program are tax deductible. If you are able to at this time, please complete the enclosed sponsor form. If there are any questions, or you would like additional information about our program or other ways to help our team, please contact Coach Irvin Johnson (PD Head Soccer Coach) by email at irvin.johnson@amaisd.org or through my office at 806-326-2481.

With a donation of $500.00 a banner with your business information will be hung on our soccer field per your request, and you’ll receive a “Proud Sponsor Of Palo Duro Boys Soccer” plaque a donation of $150 or more per your request. AUSTIN – Don’t mess with Texas is launching a contest as big as the Lone Star State to find its new anti-litter theme song. The Don’t mess with Texas “Lone Star Song Search” invites Texans to compose an original song to compete for prizes provided by iHeart Media, Guitar Center and the School of Rock. Two winners will be selected in two different categories with each winning valuable prizes.
“The contest is an exciting way for Texans to add their voice to Don’t mess with Texas,” said Becky Ozuna, program administrator for the Don’t mess with Texas campaign. “We are seeking fresh and unique songs, written by Texans, to creatively communicate the importance of keeping our state clean and litter-free.”
The Don’t mess with Texas “Lone Star Song Search” is open to Texas residents, ages 13 and above. Contest rules and entry criteria can be found at Dontmesswithtexas.org. Contestants should submit their completely original song, up to 30 seconds long, by video, incorporating the Don’t mess with Texas tagline and an anti-littering message. To be eligible, entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2020.
Don’t mess with Texas will choose one winner in the Best Original Song category, who will receive a home recording studio donated by Guitar Center. This winner will receive a School of Rock Scholarship donated by iHeart Media. The Don’t mess with Texas “Lone Star Song Search” winners will also join the ranks of other notable performers featured in the Don’t mess with Texas campaign throughout the years including Willie Nelson, George Strait, The Randy Rogers Band and Las Fenix.
Don’t mess with Texas has been educating Texans about litter prevention since 1986. The program includes a grassroots partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful, annual “Trash-Off” community outreach events and the Adopt-a-Highway volunteer program.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day @ National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Dec 7 all-day

Each year in the United States, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day honors all those who lost their lives when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. More than 3,500 Americans lost their lives or were wounded on that solemn day.
The day marked a turn in the United States’ position regarding involvement in World War II. The Japanese attack damaged several battleships, permanently sinking both the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma. Still, others capsized, taking crew members with them. One noted ship was the USS Utah. Along with naval vessels, the attack destroyed aircraft, too. As a result, the attack forced the U.S. into a war that had been raging for two years.
The day is also sometimes referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day.

High Plains Food Bank / News Channel 10:Together We Can Day Kicks Off

DECEMBER 7-11, 2020
Goal: 1 MILLION MEALS!

Today, we kick off the annual Together We Can Holiday Food and Fund Drive. Although this year looks much different, the tradition continues. And, the need has never been greater. To keep our team and the community safe, we strongly encourage everyone to donate online or by adding a donation to your United, Market Street or Amigos grocery purchase. However, we will have a lean crew available at Market Street to accept donations of food and funds via a low/no contact drive through all week with masks, social distancing, and crowd control being enforced on the site.

We need your help to raise the resources we need to provide 1 million meals to neighbors facing food insecurity. Here’s a snapshot of day 1.

Today’s Ambassadors of Giving: NuStar Energy “Kick Off” Sponsor, Happy State Bank, Xcel Energy
Today’s Warehouse Wish List Item– Peanut Butter, presented by Street Volkswagen

FAST FACTS:
• Mission: To Alleviate Hunger in the Texas Panhandle
• HPFB can provide the equivalent of 5 meals with every $1 donation, and $0.95 of every dollar donated goes directly to feeding people in need
• In our 29-county, 30,000-square-mile service area, hunger exists in every county and every zip code
• Food insecurity currently affects 1 in 6 neighbors including 1 in 4 children
• In 2019, HPFB distributed over 9 million pounds of food, or about 7.5 million meals to 9,041 households. This June, we distributed a record-breaking 1.1 million pounds of food to more than 12,000 households in just one month. We’re still serving more than 11,000 households each month, on average.

WAYS TO HELP:
• Give online at www.hpfb/donate – Online giving is sponsored by FirstBank Southwest.
• Donate online or at the register when you shop at any area United, Market Street, or Amigos. The United Family will match your donations, up to $10,000 through Dec. 13!
• Drop off food or fund donations this week at Market Street via the low/no contact drive-through. Volunteers, wearing masks and gloves, will accept your donation, so you never have to leave your vehicle!

National Cotton Candy Day @ National Cotton Candy Day
Dec 7 @ 9:33 am – 10:33 am

National Cotton Candy Day celebrates the spun sugar treat that delights candy fans of all ages. On December 7th get your favorite flavor of this sweet delight that dates back to the 1400s.
Originally called spun sugar, cotton candy is still a staple at carnivals, fairs, and the circus. While it may be reminiscent of childhood days, fairy floss also reminds us of fluffy clouds. Since the heated sugar gets spun into thin strands of fine sugar and blown into fat puffs twirled onto paper sticks, it’s a bit like magic.
We associate it with other magical occasions, too. Carnivals and fairs, the zoo, and the circus delight us. We associate a bit of joy and magic with cotton candy. Nostalgic memories of bustling crowds and the music of the calliope bring a smile to our faces. Cotton candy comes with adventure!
Cotton candy is also called candy floss or fairy floss.
During the 18th century, cotton candy (spun sugar) was first recorded in Europe. At that time, it was very expensive and labor-intensive. Generally, the average person could not afford to purchase cotton candy.
Then in 1897, Dentist William Morrison and confectioner John C. Wharton invented machine-spun cotton candy. Their invention introduced cotton candy to a wider audience at the 1904 World’s Fair as Fairy Floss. Fairgoers loved it and bought over 68,000 boxes for 25¢ a box.
