The Salvation Army Joins Forces With Walmart to “Stuff the Bus” for Kids in Need
INSERT CITY volunteers and community members donate school supplies for local children returning to school during the pandemic – whether online or in the classroom

Walmart and The Salvation Army are teaming up to provide new school supplies to local children in need during the “Stuff the Bus” campaign event at all Walmart Super-center and Neighborhood Markets August 7-9, 2020.

For kids preparing for the upcoming school year, school supplies remain critical to their success. In light of COVID-19, The Salvation Army has adapted its services to ensure that children in every community can continue receiving the educational support they deserve. This year, the “Stuff the Bus” campaign event in Amarillo is one of more than 4,500 similar events taking place at Walmart stores across the country. When shoppers visit Walmart on August 7-9, they can purchase and drop off requested items at Salvation Army collection bins at the front of each store.

“There are literally hundreds of children in Amarillo area whose parents will have to make the tough choice between school supplies, groceries, the electric bill or insurance,” said Major Ernest Hull from The Salvation Army. “We anticipate this number will increase significantly this year due to the novel coronavirus.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, The Salvation Army has provided more than 65 million meals through a combination of prepared meals and food boxes, 1.45 million nights of safe shelter, and emotional and spiritual support to more than 778,000 people, in addition to the financial assistance, hygiene kits, and youth programs the organization provides in almost every ZIP code in America.

Walmart and The Salvation Army have collaborated for more than 30 years in an effort to meet local community needs. Supporters like Walmart help The Salvation Army serve more than 23 million Americans each year through a range of social services that help them overcome poverty and economic hardships.

All donations made at “Stuff the Bus” campaign events will remain in the community to help The Salvation Army provide back-to-school support to local children in need.

Camp TV from Panhandle PBS

Panhandle PBS on Camp TV – a new addition to our educational program lineup for children, aiming to help boost summer learning with a fun, educational, twice-a-week at-home virtual day camp experience.

Camp TV
A Learning Initiative for Children
July – September on Panhandle PBS

Panhandle PBS is bringing Camp TV to its on air programming lineup, as well as parallel online resources, to help boost summer learning across the Texas Panhandle with a fun, educational, twice-a-week at-home alternative to day camp.

Panhandle PBS will broadcast Camp TV episodes on Fridays 2 p.m. and Sundays at 10 a.m. through September 20. Episodes will be available to watch on demand here https://www.pbs.org/show/camp-tv/ with additional Camp TV learning opportunities available on PBS LearningMedia here https://kacv.pbslearningmedia.org/collection/camp-tv/.

Camp TV is a televised day camp experience that children can take part in in the safety of their own homes. An enthusiastic head counselor, played by Broadway performer Zachary Noah Piser, guides “campers” as they learn through play. Campers will explore the arts, music, theatre, nature, science, math, and reading with segments featuring educational and cultural organizations from around the nation such as the New York Public Library, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Bedtime Math, Wildlife Conservation Society, the Memphis Zoo, and more.

Each Camp TV episode will be an hour long and will feature a theme of the day, like “song day,” “cooking day,” and “heroes day.” Every episode also includes a storytelling segment that features a different book of the day. The series is produced by WNET.

Camp TV helps Panhandle PBS meet its mission of inspiring, educating and entertaining audiences across the Texas Panhandle. As a trusted resource and educational partner for learners age 2 and up, Panhandle PBS is providing this series for children, families, educators and education program directors to extend learning opportunities both on and off the screen.
